How can we be sure the COVID-19 vaccine is safe, given how quickly the vaccine is being developed and submitted for approval by the FDA?

1. The U.S. national vaccine safety system ensures that all vaccines are as safe as possible, and because vaccines are given to millions of healthy people to prevent serious diseases, they’re held to very high safety standards.
2. COVID-19 vaccines are undergoing a rigorous development process that includes vaccinating tens of thousands of people who participate in a study to generate the needed clinical data. These clinical trials generate scientific data for the FDA to determine each vaccine's safety.
2.5. It’s worth noting that the clinical studies to establish the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines were as big and thorough as recent studies for other licensed vaccines (like for shingles).
3. The FDA is continuously monitoring the vaccine to ensure safety. Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA’s) do not mean skipped steps - the vaccine has only been released because the benefits of being vaccinated outweigh the risks.
4. Researchers have been studying and working on coronavirus vaccines for years, so they didn't start from scratch. Outside physicians and organizations feel that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective.

@E_Stenehjem: "We have reviewed the publication the @NEJM, the data submitted to the FDA, the data submitted from Pfizer, and we all feel that this vaccine is safe and effective. This vaccine needs to be deployed in our Healthcare settings and communities as soon as possible."
