I was playing with my son's , trying to emulate a linear regression. I was doubtful about perpendicular projections too. It is not a classic OLS method, but you can see how errors are reduced.
It would be great if you can provide more information about the maths.

It's a linear regression, but not an OLS. It is an orthogonal regression which reduces total least squares. Also, it is the first component of a PCA, and it could be a support vector machine too.
