One player who has been completely overlooked by the #FPLCommunity this summer is Ferran Torres, now of Man City.

Here’s a short thread on why it may be wrong to overlook the Spaniard 🔍↕️ #FPL
Firstly, a little bit about me.

I am an avid La Liga fan and enjoy watching the league, particularly as I lived in Madrid for a short period, regularly watching Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.

Te quiero Atleti 😅🔴
Ferran Torres comes from none other than Valencia, a European giant on their day.

Unfortunately, Valencia is in a bad way right now, with their owner Peter Lim holding the club hostage if you may.

They endured an underwhelming 19/20 campaign and missed out on Euro football.
Due to this, Valencia placed the ENTIRE squad up for sale (bar Gaya). Notably, their captain Dani Parejo, and former Arsenal man Francis Coquelin, left in a deal worth a combined total of €8m to Villareal. 🤯

The man in question, Ferran Torres left to City for a measly £20m.
Despite their poor season last year, Torres enjoyed a fairly decent ‘breakthrough’ season.

Last season was a personal high for the 20 year old in terms of games played, goals and assists.

He reached 6 goals and 8 assists from 44 games, with 4 of those coming in the UCL.
Although these numbers dont exactly jump out, he was part of a dwindling side.

For a player who just turned 20, being the 4th top scorer and 2nd top assister, his influence in the team was undoubted. After all, it certainly caught Peps eye.

He also rejected Barca in 18/19.
Ferran played right wing for Valencia, so it is likely he will rival both Mahrez and Bilva for starts.

He stands at a sizeable 6ft tall, which is not your typical ‘winger’ height. However, don’t let this deceive you from his electrifying pace, which thrives in 1v1 situations.
Much alike Mahrez, he enjoys his time on the ball, creating something out of nothing, beating his man and putting the ball in the box. Very direct.

Torres averaged 4.84 dribbles per game last season, completing 50.6%. This puts him on par with some of the finest in Europe.
Torres likes to drop deep to receive the ball and use his bursts of acceleration to beat pressing opponents.

Below we can see the position he has collected the ball and how his physical and technical ability allows him to evade the oncoming pressers.
From this, he bursts forward in enigmatic fashion, carrying the ball past several Villareal players and rushing towards the goal, where he can either play in another teammate or go alone.

His ability to withstand pressure is commendable and well suited to Peps City team.
For me, he looks almost like the double of Mahrez. The playstyles of the two are very similar, and whilst Mahrez nears his 30th birthday, Torres looks to be the man to fill the shirt.

I have no doubts Ferran Torres will make a name for himself at Man City.
FPL wise however, Torres is ultimately a work in progress. He is not an assured starter.

However, Pep often demonstrates encouraging signs for players like him with the belief he puts his youngsters. Torres will get his chance to shine this season, likely from the bench.
By no means does this mean ignore him.

With Pep rotation so prominent, I expect Torres to get some starts this season.

If he does well enough to earn himself a consistent place in the team, £7m just seems a little bit too cheap for a player with his potential.
