If we take one thing out of this shit show of exam chaos it’s that we must start preparing now for how students will take A levels & GCSEs in 2021. We cannot repeat these mistakes.
Students have already missed a term and a half of 5 term courses for GCSE & A Level. Reduced syllables, fewer subjects, later exams, assistance for those who had no online learning since March & more should be considered.
If they are to be continuously assessed in case of more school closures or no exams that needs to happen from September. They should know as soon as possible what their Year 11 & Year 13 are going to look like.
Obviously headteachers have far too busy with current University and FE shambles and readying schools for reopening in a pandemic to take this on as well. The Government could convene a separate task force to consult and produce a strategy, but it needs to begin now.
As the Government’s policy on how to grade this year’s A level was made 4 days AFTER results were released I think we really need to stand up for next year’s students now so they have clarity around courses and exams before they too are compromised.
Big decisions about fairness need to be made fast. Ends.
