Yesterday @UniofNottingham & @TrentUni launched the #UnisForNottingham Civic Agreement w/ our local partners.

For me, this marks 3yrs+ since working with @richardbrabner on the genesis of the @UPP_Foundation #TrulyCivic Commission https://twitter.com/UniofNottingham/status/1288383816126562305
This first #UnisForNottingham Civic Agreement contains 14 initial projects that we & our partners agree should be a priority for collective action over the next year...

So - in a single thread, with some dubious emoji usage - here they all are...

1⃣ We will help drive economic revival and protect jobs by realigning our innovation support programmes w/ @D2N2LEP to help 2000 local businesses overcome COVID-19 & create 1000 new jobs.

We will also try & prevent a repeat of the grad 🧠🎓drain of 2008

2⃣ We will work together to ensure the safe and secure return of students to Nottingham + use this as foundation for a new long-term integrated student & community regeneration strategy.

3⃣ (My personal fave)

We will explore developing a joint live, work, study and invest ‘place marketing’ campaign to attract investment in and people and businesses to @MyNottingham & @NottsCC

Huge potential here w/ @TheNottmProject & County's visitor economy assets
4⃣ We will support the @midsengine @InnovationMids @D2N2LEP @MEUniversities proposals for innovation-driven, zero-carbon growth hubs at Toton & Ratcliffe-on-Soar + Free-port around @EMA_Airport zone.

These are place-based big bets to level-up the East Mids

5⃣ New pioneering activities to support local further educational opps:

✏️progs for the most vulnerable learners;
✏️a place-based offering for newly qualified 👨‍🏫👩‍🏫 to retain them locally
✏️Our student teachers will help those kids most affected by COVID-19

6⃣ (a smally, but a goody)

"We will work with partners (both @MyNottingham @NottsCC ) to ensure that there is appropriate seniority of reps from both uni on local education forums"

We will be more joined-up to help support a more joined-up approach to local educational opps
7⃣ We will drive a “green re-boot” (🟩🔄👢?) of the local economy, helping new and existing businesses develop products, tech & innovations for de-carbonisation - supporting @MyNottingham ambitious 2028 targets.

@aardvarknsefce is going to be busy!

8⃣ We will continue to invest in low and zero carbon infrastructure (physical and digital), building design & energy management practices across Uni campuses. These will be "living labs" for local businesses to test cool new stuff!

9⃣ We will ⏩💚📈Sustainable travel & transport including 🚶,🚴‍♂️, public 🚌🚆🚋 (not 🚀🛸, but maybe 🚡?) w/ low emissions. We will run behaviour change progs across our staff & students to help improve community 🔄🚮🚰

🔟 We will develop a major new joint med tech offer to business, keeping Nottingham(shire) as the place to move your health science company to, or start a new one!

1⃣1⃣ We will work with @nottmhospitals @SFHFT @NHSNottsCCG (& @NottsHealthcare @EM_AHSN too!) on a joint prog of development, training and support to meet clinical skills needs across our local healthcare system.

1⃣2⃣ Exciting New Thing Alert!

A #UnisForNottingham "SAGE" - mobilising academic expertise to help ⬆️local 'what works' capacity.

Will be figuring this out with @NTU_DVC_RI @UoN_Institute @StephenMeek52 over the summer... bit of local Select Committee vibe to it possibly?
1⃣3⃣ We will immediately refocus our student enterprise challenges/ competitions to directly support local COVID-19 recovery, using the four #UnisForNottingham themes, bringing the ingenuity and creativity of 0000s of students to bear on the challenges we all face.
1⃣4⃣ We will ask @ukri @ResEngland & @dsweeneyUK very nicely if they fancy funding a #UnisForNottingham Doctoral Training Partnership, attracting talented PhD students to work between the unis and our partners on research projects that address local challenges.
